This device was set on the moon by Armstrong and Aldrin in 1969. It has tiny mirrors that can reflect lasers used on earth. Using this device, we can calculate the exact distance of the moon at any time. The moon's average distance from earth is 384,400 km. It is spiraling away from Earth at an average rate of 3.8 cm per year. Yikes!
